Symphony X

Michael Romeo Interview – A Perfect Symphony Part Two: 2002 - 2008

In Part One of our exclusive Michael Romeo Interview: ‘A Perfect Symphony’, Michael and I discussed his early days and influences as a player, and he gave us the low down on both the formation of Symphony X and the first phase of their career. Now we look at the last few years - a time when Symphony X have been going from strength to strength in the International arena culminating in the recent sold out Headlining European Tour.

Michael Romeo Interview – A Perfect Symphony Part One: 1970's to 2000.

Back in the mid 1990's Symphony X surfaced from the fertile breeding ground for virtuoso rock and shred/metal guitarists that is New Jersey, USA. One of those very rare bands whose signature sound and approach was pretty much fully formed from day one, Symphony X emerged with a stunning blend of precision metal riffing, soaring melodies and show stopping solo passages from guitarist Michael Romeo and keyboardist Mike Pinella that provided the previously unchallenged Dream Theater with a viable contender for the throne of the ultimate prog metal band.

Dominici - O3 A Trilogy Part Three

Charles Dominici has forever been known in metal circles as Dream Theater's 'lost' vocalist, having appeared on their debut album 'When Dream And Day Unite' and then disappearing when that album failed to live up to commercial expectations. Petrucci and gang went back to the drawing board and drafted in Canadian James Labrie, who has fronted the prog metal leviathans ever since, and Dominici was seemingly consigned to history.

Outworld - Outworld

I know it’s been a while since Outworld’s self-titled debut, but having listened to it a lot recently and baring in mind that a band of this calibre with such high critical praise are without a record deal, I thought that a review won’t do any harm.

Symphony X - Paradise Lost

Symphony X – Paradise Lost

Myself and Owen from AOG have always maintained that Symphony X were a ‘Fully Evolved’ band right from their conception. They sat around a table and agreed that their musical vision shall be just like it still is today – fully evolved, over dramatic, brutally sonic, technically perfect, mythically enlightened, progressive metal leaning towards an epic battle scenario. I imagine that if Zeus owns an i-pod, then Symphony X will command his ‘My Favourites’ playlist.
