The CAGED System with Les Davidson
Hi, my name is Les Davidson and over the next few months I’ll be giving you a series of Guitar lessons from the essential basics to the more advanced.
These have been filmed exclusively for you at GuitarX in London. I hope to remove some of the mystery from this thing called music and get you feeling comfortable all over the neck of the Guitar.
This first lesson is using the CAGED system for chords.
The what!!!
The CAGED system is really very simple; it takes the principal of using open chord shapes (ie chords with open strings within the first three frets) and transposing them in five positions up the neck of the Guitar.
The five shapes are C major A major G major E major D major.
For instance if you play a G major Barre chord at the third fret you would be using an E shape but your Barre finger would now be replacing the nut and so on.
If you take a look at my lesson this will be explained in much more detail. This system can be used for any chord and the inversions of such in any key. Please remember slow is best when learning something new, your brain will only remember the information you give it.
If you give it the wrong information that’s what you’ll get when you recall it.
Have fun and take care.
Les Davidson.
