James Lane Diary for February 08: Yamaha guitar scholarship winner

If you didn’t read my last blog my name is James Lane and I’m the proud winner of a Yamaha Guitar Scholarship at the Institute of Contemporary Music Performance. I’m going to share what I’ve been doing at the Institute and hopefully pass on a bit of information about playing and learning.

I’m currently on half term of Term two now, and it has flown by so fast. I’ll start by telling you a little about a couple of the lessons I’ve had this term.

Hi, my name is James Lane and I was the lucky winner of the Yamaha Guitar scholarship on the Institute’s Higher Diploma course. This is my first blog entry (so bear with me!) but my aim is to share some of my thoughts on playing and learning, give you some ideas about what’s going on here, and share some of my personal highlights from the first six weeks. So, here goes…

Outl4w drop in for a surprise gig at the ICMP

Up and coming young punksters, Outl4w, recently dropped into the Institute to rattle the windows with their high energy and raw brand of punk. The band literally rang up the day before and said ‘we’re down the road, can we play a short gig!’

Tolis Zavaliaris

Tolis Zavaliaris was born in Orestiada a small town in northern Greece. In 2001 he relocated from Greece to London where he studied the three year degree program at the London Guitar Institute. After his graduation he was invited to join the Institute as tutor and lecturer.

Since graduating from the Institute of Contemporary Music Performance (then known as the Guitar Institute) in 1995, Charlie Griffiths has worked in a variety of professional situations including radio, television, numerous sessions and hundreds of gigs. Charlie teaches on all the guitar courses at the Institute, specialising in advanced rock and metal concepts and he brings a wealth of knowledge and experience to our students.
